The Zurich Classic begins today at TPC Louisiana just outside New Orleans, LA, and will be the fourth Pete Dye course to host a PGA event this year so far (the American Express, Players Championship, RBC Heritage were all played at Pete Dye designs–PGA West Dye Stadium, TPC Sawgrass Players Stadium, and Harbour Town, respectively). TPC Louisiana is one of Louisiana’s most highly rated golf courses, and is a great venue to watch the pros, as it’s spectator-friendly and challenging to the players–with Dye’s deceptive angles and visual hazard distractions all over the course.
The Zurich Classic is a one-of-a-kind PGA tour event, as it is the only event where players form two-man teams to compete over the four days–with Days 1 & 3 being a best-ball format, and Days 2 & 4 being true alternate shot. Last year’s event was won by Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry, highlighted by their impromptu karaoke performance of Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing”!
