The eyes of the golfing world have been set on Pete Dye’s Harbour Town Golf Links in Hilton Head Island, SC this week for the 2025 RBC Heritage, won in a thrilling playoff by Justin Thomas over Andrew Novak! But now changes are coming!

Now that the tournament has completed (and the PGA moves on to another Pete Dye Course for the Zurich Classic next week at his TPC Louisiana course), the Sea Pines Resort will be closing Harbour Town Golf Links until November 2025 as Davis Love’s design company will be leading an extensive restoration project, led by head architect (and expert on Pete Dye restorations), Scot Sherman!!

Mr. Sherman is an excellent choice for leading restoration work on Pete’s courses–having worked for years with Pete himself, and leading numerous similar projects on other Pete Dye courses (most recently Keswick Hall’s Full Cry Course in Virginia, and Delray Dunes Golf & Country Club in Florida–Pete and Alice’s very first golf course design in Florida).

“Everyone at The Sea Pines Resort is committed to honouring the legacy of Pete Dye’s design,” said John Farrell, the Sea Pines Resort director of sports operations. “We will protect the shot values, both long and short, that have come to define Harbour Town Golf Links for nearly six decades.”

“I’m both honoured and excited to be working with The Sea Pines Resort’s Harbour Town Golf Links team on the restoration of Harbour Town,” said Davis Love III. “We’ve already begun a thoughtful process for protecting the integrity of this Pete Dye masterpiece.”

Per Sea Pines’ press release, “the restoration will ensure championship-level conditions for both PGA TOUR players and guests of The Sea Pines Resort while preserving classic shot values and design. The restoration will thoughtfully consider Dye’s famous design but will make improvements to agronomy and maintenance of the course, rebuilding all greens, bunkers and bulkheads. The different turfs currently in use—TifEagle on the greens; Celebration Bermuda on the fairways, tees and rough—will remain the same. Work has already begun by replacing railroad ties on some of the bulkheads.”

We at the Pete Dye Society look forward to the updates to Harbour Town, and applaud their desire to maintain Pete’s vision and legacy at the iconic course that has challenged professional and amateurs for nearly 60 years!
