On this date in 2006, Jay Haas won his first major championship, defeating Brad Bryant in three playoff holes at Pete Dye’s Oak Tree National (Edmund, OK)! Gil Morgan came in 3rd place. Jay Haas would end up being the 2006 Champions Tour Player of the Year.

This was the 2nd major tournament played at Oak Tree National, with Pete’s gem in Oklahoma previously hosting the PGA Championship in 1988 (won by Jeff Sluman). The course is scheduled to host the US Senior Open in 2027.
