Pete and Alice Dye’s very first course design in Florida at Delray Dunes Golf & Country Club will have renovations performed by architect Scot Sherman beginning on March 4, 2024.

While Pete Dye went on to design 22 golf courses in Florida total (the second most of any other state besides Indiana), Delray Dunes always held a special place in his heart as his very first in the state. As quoted in his book Pete Dye Golf Courses, Fifty Years of Visionary Design, Pete confirmed that:

“both Alice and I have special feeling for Delray Dunes, the first course I ever designed in Florida. I’m always interested in what’s going on over there. I guess that’s why I’m always stopping by, offering suggestions, and making improvements. I want the course to be the best it can be, and it’s a labor of love for me to continue refining it.”

When Pete was young, his parents often would take the family down to Delray Beach in the winter to escape the cold weather in Urbana, OH. Alice and Pete ended up calling Delray Beach ‘home’ for most of their adult life (between there and the Campo de Casa in the Dominican Republic).

We at the Pete Dye Society applaud Mr. Sherman’s plans to keep the design true to Pete’s vision and inspirations whenever possible, and look forward to reviewing the final product when the work is scheduled to be done later this year!
