It’s now officially the start date for The American Express, the first PGA Tour event of the year back in the continental US, and we at the Pete Dye Society are excited to see one of his designs take center stage!.
Pete Dye’s ‘The Stadium Course at PGA West’ in La Quinta, CA will be one of the three courses in rotation for the field Thursday through Saturday, and then will host the entire field on Championship Sunday!
This year, the PGA Tour will get to see an updated Stadium Course, as long-time Pete Dye ‘Dye-sciple’, Tim Liddy, just completed significant work in the course to get the greens and bunkers back to Dye’s original vision.
Our friends at Golf.com just published a great article on The Stadium Course’s history of being know as a difficult course, and is a great quick read! Click link below.
Feedback on the course updates from players during practice rounds this week has been mostly positive, emphasizing that the greens are super-firm and can be difficult to stop on the greens. Watching players on Sunday try to stop the ball Dye’s 2nd most-famous island green (#17 at The Stadium Course at PGA West) will be very exciting, especially if they’re playing down wind!!!
Good luck to all the players taking g in this updated Dye design!!
