It was announced yesterday that Pete Dye’s infamous Harbour Town Golf Links in Hilton Head, SC will undergo a restoration project by Davis Love’s design company in May 2025, right after next year’s RBC Heritage–one of the PGA’s Signature Events. The course will be closed from May to November 2025.
The lead architect of Love Golf Design, Scot Sherman, was previously tapped by the Sea Pines Resort team to execute some modifications to Harbour Town back in 2020 during the pandemic–when reduced play offered a chance to make minor modifications to the course. That apparently led to the decision to choose Love Golf Design again for the 2025 restoration of Harbour Town.
The restoration will focus on reworking greens, bunkers and bulkheads, all while still retaining the original concepts and vision of Pete Dye.
“Everyone at The Sea Pines Resort is committed to honouring the legacy of Pete Dye’s design,” said John Farrell, the Sea Pines Resort director of sports operations. “We will protect the shot values, both long and short, that have come to define Harbour Town Golf Links for nearly six decades.”
“I’m both honoured and excited to be working with The Sea Pines Resort’s Harbour Town Golf Links team on the restoration of Harbour Town,” said Davis Love III. “We’ve already begun a thoughtful process for protecting the integrity of this Pete Dye masterpiece.”
We look forward to the updates to Harbour Town, and applaud their desire to maintain Pete’s vision and legacy at the course that has challenged professional and amateurs for nearly 60 years!
